In his teens, Frank pursued his interest in music by playing lead guitar in a variety of bands in the San Diego area. Merry-Go-Down, the last band he played in, was a six-piece ensemble that mixed a wide range of influences including heavy funk, world beat and psychedelic rock. The band quickly became a favorite of San Diego radio with the release of several independently recorded singles and numerous enthusiastically received live performances.
Frank left the music industry in 1991 to begin a career in postproduction sound. His background as a musician, composer and performer coupled with his in-depth knowledge of computer sequencing and sound equipment made for a natural transition into film sound. Over the course of his career he has become a highly regarded Supervising Sound Editor & Sound Designer and has had the privilege of working with some of the most talented and adventurous filmmakers in the industry including Walter Salles, Alexander Payne, Catherine Hardwicke, Agnieszka Holland and David Lynch.
After years of working at many well-regarded postproduction sound facilities in Los Angeles, in April of 2002, Frank formed his own company, Sound for Film, Inc Frank's recent feature film credits include: Sideways, The Motorcycle Diaries, About Schmidt, Laurel Canyon and the soon to be released Disney's Dark Water. Because of his early involvement in digital sound sampling and editing as a more creative and efficient option for working, he has helped lead and shape the revolution that has transformed the industry in recent years. It is his hope to continue working with people who are passionate and adventurous about their work and who appreciate and demand an exceptional and distinctive soundtrack for their films.
